Make sure all the stuff you buy is on sale (except for staple like milk, eggs...) Also check is the store you shop in tells you how much you are paying per 100g, or any other amount. For example, different brands of eggs would cost different amounts, and you could figure out how much you are paying per egg.
I make a list and stick to it, also use www.hotukdeals.com, they have most of the Supermarkets deals listed, I also use the Newspapers to see what deals are going on. I use Tesco and Lidl and have a set budget.
Have you tried Aldi or Lidl, supposed to be just as good but cheaper than the main supermarkets. Also try shopping online as you can select your items, go to checkout to see total cost and if too much, you can deselect items you don't really need or choose a shop own brand to bring the price down until you are happy with your checkout bill.
Go to the market!
For fresh fruit and veg, head down to a street market and you can easily cut 60% off your shopping bill.
When possible, I head down to Ridley Market in Dalston and find lots of great stuff. Typically it will cost me less then £20 to fill my fridge with Fruit and Veg enough for a week.
You won't find anywhere else where you can buy white asparagus for just £1.
Hi
Dont go shopping on empty stomach - scientifically proven you will buy more !
Shop once a week or once a month if possible. This will cut down the impulse buys when you visit the store more frequently !
Make plan of meals. Work out ingredients needed and stick to this ! Shop via internet if possible to prevent you from deviating instore
Find out when your local supermarket reduces items. This is normally in the last 20 mins before closing, but you can get some great bargains !
Try going down to basic food. Or at least supermarkets own brand. I buy nearly all basic food but I cannot stand the cheapest bread or pasta so its all trial and error !
There is a website where you can input your shopping list and it will tell you which is the cheapest supermarket to go.to.
Search the web for meal planning websites. For example, adding red lentils or oats to a meal doesnt change the taste but bulks out the meal so you can use less meat. Top tips like this are easy to find.
